Thomas Langley, b.1986, London, UK. Lives and works in London. He graduated from Royal Academy Schools, post graduate diploma (MA), London, in 2018.

Thomas Langley is currently working through exploring an intersection of painting and drawing practices. Langley creates drawings and paintings exploring abstraction, material dialogue and personal histories. Langley currently has a focus on painterly interpretations of craft and visual languages from the natural and human environment.

Thomas Langley’s Hedge (Untitled) 004 explores the intersection of painting and drawing, focusing on the mechanics of image creation through pulsating, rhythmic compositions. The work reflects the hedge as both a sanctuary for wildlife and a boundary, embodying concepts of place and home while symbolising the tension between openness and restriction. Langley’s use of thick impasto and expressive, semi-representational mark-making imbues the piece with a tactile, almost sculptural quality, creating a dialogue between abstraction and representation.
