Though the smallest bricks-and-mortar contemporary gallery in the UK, Liminal Gallery challenges the status quo, presenting the diverse and resonant voices of today’s artists from across the UK and Ireland. While historically, women and minorities have been wildly underrepresented in the art world, Liminal stands as proof that change is happening.
Founded in April 2021, Liminal Gallery initially operated digitally and nomadically before opening its permanent space at 34 Fort Hill, Margate, in October 2022. Since then, Liminal has expanded with The Cupboard, a second exhibition space which provides local artists with a three-month residency to present solo exhibitions in a playful and intimate setting.
Beyond Margate, Liminal’s reach extends through pop-up exhibitions, online exhibitions, and collaborations with galleries and museums in London and internationally, ensuring that Liminal Gallery’s artists receive exposure on a global stage.
Liminal’s commitment to contemporary art extends beyond exhibitions. In October 2022, they launched the Liminal Gallery Podcast, offering deeper insight into the practices of their represented and exhibiting artists while widening global access to their work.
