About the artist

Henrietta Armstrong is a multimedia artist and curator based in London, specialising in sculpture, installation and public art. She looks at man-made objects and structures from everyday technologies that are often obsolete or defunct, and the symbolism or meaning that we imbue them with. Henrietta creates work that can sometimes be playful but has a serious message that stays with the viewer about the effects we are having on the planet and what we will be leaving behind for the future.

About the artwork

Henrietta Armstrong’s Throwing Bones II comprises fifty white cast forms scattered like remnants of a forgotten ritual, evoking the Dolos sea defences that protect vulnerable coastlines. Inspired by the knuckle bones used in divination by Sangomas, the installation blurs the line between play and prophecy, reflecting on how we seek meaning and protection in times of uncertainty. As rising seas threaten the landscapes these structures are meant to guard, Throwing Bones II becomes both a quiet warning and a poetic offering—an embodiment of resilience, fragility, and our shifting relationship with the natural world.
