About the artist

Henrietta Armstrong is a multimedia artist and curator based in London, specialising in sculpture, installation and public art. She looks at man-made objects and structures from everyday technologies that are often obsolete or defunct, and the symbolism or meaning that we imbue them with. Henrietta creates work that can sometimes be playful but has a serious message that stays with the viewer about the effects we are having on the planet and what we will be leaving behind for the future.

About the artwork

Henrietta Armstrong’s Fossil Tree is a cast sculpture taken from the stump of an oak felled by violent storms, preserving the imprint of a once-living sentinel now lost to the elements. Drawing from a year-long search for the right tree - prompted by the image of a bench encircling an absent trunk - the work becomes a monument to disappearance, evoking a future where nature exists only as relic or memory. In an age where we are only beginning to understand the deep intelligence and interconnectedness of trees, Fossil Tree stands as a quiet but urgent omen, asking what is lost when we stop listening.
