OVERVIEW
As the summer draws to a close, everything must go…
Alice Herrick & Julie Caves invite you
to climb the hill above the sea,
to find a souvenir…
a memento, a keepsake…
a piece of work…
a work of art,
to have and to hold…
a drawing, a painting, an object of desire.
Julie has gone through the paintings and ceramics at the back of her studio. Alice has selected works from her extensive archives of works on paper, small paintings and sculptures. All to be shown and sold at special prices for the SOUVENIR SHOP show.
JULIE CAVES
Julie Caves is a Margate-based artist who has embraced the genre of still life in all its guises and painterly possibilities. She finds objects and our love of them and the spaces that we live in with them, endlessly fascinating. She sometimes approaches her subject directly and paints ‘roomscapes’ and objects from observation, but often she focuses just on the colour and light separated from the subject, letting the painting develop intuitively, and those works are usually read as abstract paintings. She has recently started applying a similar abstract approach to ceramic sculpture to see how the 3-dimensional form interrupts the colour relationships and interacts with the light.
