OVERVIEW

Kalkman Gallery (Maastricht, NL) and Liminal Gallery (Margate, UK) join forces to present Micromania, a bold collaborative exhibition bringing together over 80 artists in a single, concentrated presentation. Ambitious in scope and international in reach, the project unites painters, sculptors, photographers, street artists and multidisciplinary practitioners around one simple, shared challenge: to create work within a maximum size of 10 × 10 (× 10) cm. What emerges is a dynamic and unexpected survey of contemporary art in miniature; a curated constellation of individual voices, each responding to the same constraint with imagination, precision and wit. By placing established figures alongside emerging talents, Micromania offers an egalitarian platform where each artwork holds equal presence and potential.

The exhibition is the result of a long-standing friendship between Louise Fitzjohn (Liminal Gallery) and Hubert Kalkman (Kalkman Gallery), who first met on the international art fair circuit over a decade ago. Both now run galleries that may be modest in physical footprint but expansive in vision. With Micromania, they bring together the artists they represent alongside many they have long admired, creating a meeting point for diverse practices, disciplines and perspectives.

The line-up includes an impressive and eclectic roster of artists, spanning painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, collage, street art and mixed media. Participants include:

LIMINAL GALLERY

Proving that scale is no barrier to impact, Liminal Gallery is the UK’s smallest bricks-and-mortar contemporary gallery. Based in Margate, Liminal challenges the status quo with a bold and inclusive programme, platforming diverse and resonant voices from across the UK and Ireland. With a particular focus on women and artists from underrepresented backgrounds, Liminal stands as proof that change in the art world is not only possible, but already underway.
