THERE'S BEEN A MURDER

ABOUT

In the ever growing series There's Been A Murder Flora Bradwell obsessively paints crow after individual crow. These corvids: lurking and leering from the canvas are sometimes barely even dry when they are then obliterated with paint and pattern: smeared over with translucent acrylic; blotted out with unrelenting squiggles and stripes. Never far from an archway and a wailing sphere or two, it is as if these harbingers of doom or magik, whichever way you look at them, need to be rubbed away and silenced. In some paintings the crow escapes the painted cage and the wailing sphere becomes relegated to the imagined reality behind the archway. However that tentative threshold between the world of bird and sphere always feels brittle and ready to snap.

There's Been A Murder is a raw act in exploring the sense of being overwhelmed. The series feels like a blurring of the different compartments we build for ourselves to survive. Fitting, then, that this investigation of the liminal offers four special works from the series to Liminal Gallery. Buy one because perhaps crows are your spirit animal or maybe because you identify with the gaping oral orifice of the sphere. Either ways these paintings, like crows, will likely bring with them transformation, change and new beginnings.
